Passage
Star shine on shoe shine
Dark bright midnight light
Walk through wet streets and leave no tracks
Empty avenues full of forlorn ghosts
The night air presses heavy
With its empathy
Silence save the lonely cry of seagulls
Down a deep well, a plover's cry
That is all
Quiet light, subtle and insidious
Creeps like kitten's claws
This quiet night encompasses all
I can no longer see moonlight
On the tops of my toes
Draw out bare flesh like peeling apple skins
Lost feathers float on the wind
And I dive in
The shock of salt and sea
And icy hands surround me
I spread my fingers
Like starfish arms
Catching bands of silver moon mirrors
Clutching strands of seaweed
Stretching 'cross the waves
Unbroken by the days
I am guided home
By the night's silver-fingered rays
